Volkswagen Group Malaysia Sdn Bhd (VGM) believes that the newly-launched Volkswagen Polo GTI will not cannibalise the sales of another Polo variant, the Polo TSI.
VGM managing director Ricky Tay said with over 600,000 new vehicles registered a year in Malaysia, there is a different customer range for both variants.
"I dont think they will rob the sales from one or the other because there are various differences that the customers are looking at," he said at the launch of the new Polo GTI here yesterday.
Tay said VGM expects to sell a few hundred units of the Polo GTI by year-end.
"It will be difficult to set a clear target, but we expect a few hundred to be registered," he said, noting that there is a worldwide supply shortage of the Polo GTI.
VGM recorded its highest sales of 2,810 units last year since its started operations in 2007. This was attributed to the introduction of three new Volkswagen models, namely Polo 1.2, Golf 1.4 dan Scirocco 1.4.
The new Polo GTI comes in three-door and five-door versions priced at RM132,888 and RM135, 888 respectively.
