Tan Chong to launch Nissan Note by the end of 2014, new A-segment car to be launched in 2015

Image
Tan Chong Motor has revealed to research houses that it will be launching an additional two models in the next two years – the Nissan Note as well as a new A-segment model. According to a report by Maybank Research , the Nissan Note will be launched by the end of 2014, following the car’s recent preview at the 2013 KL International Motor Show. The Nissan Note on display at KLIMS had a 1.5 litre engine paired to a four-speed auto under its hood, similar to the powertrain in the Nissan Almera. The Note will allow Nissan to have a competitor against the Honda Jazz, which is a same segment car that’s pretty competitively priced in Malaysia. Next up is word of a new A-segment car due for launch in 2015, reported by CIMB Research . The new A-segment car is expected to be a ‘killer model’ in terms of sales volume. The report specifically mentions a “RM50,000 and below” price point. For Tan Chong to achieve such a price for even the most affordable variant of a multiple variant ...

Nissan BladeGlider Concept previews a future EV

Image
If Nissan has its way, our future world would be filled with arrow-shaped electric cars. We’ve just seen the ZEOD RC Le Mans electric racecar and on its way to the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show is this, the Nissan BladeGlider Concept. More than a concept, the BladeGlider is both a proposal for the future direction of Nissan EV development and an exploratory prototype of an upcoming production vehicle from the world’s leading EV manufacturer. Developed with form following function, Nissan crafted the vehicle’s unique layout to give the driver and passengers “sustainable exhilaration”. Its shape alone, with a narrow 1.0-metre front track, challenges the convention that has dominated our roads since the birth of the internal combustion engine. The BladeGlider has its conceptual roots in two aerial images: the soaring, silent, panoramic freedom of a glider and the triangular shape of a high performance “swept wing” aircraft. In terms of engineering, the BladeGlider’s development...

2012 Nissan Almera Officially Launched In Malaysia, Priced From RM67K To RM80K

Image
2012 Nissan Almera Malaysia, Priced RM67K To RM80K The 2012 Nissan Almera has finally been launched at an official ceremony at One World Hotel. Much is known about the locally-assembled Nissan B-segment sedan except for its finalised pricing, which has been announced as RM 66,800 for the 1.5 E manual, RM 69,800 for the 1.5 E, RM 76,800 for the 1.5 V, and RM 79,800 for the 1.5 VL. Malaysians interested in the Almera will be pleasantly surprised as these prices are lower than the RM70K to RM85K range announced when booking opened almost two months back. The successor to the Latio, the Sentra and the Sunny, the Almera sits on Nissan's all-new V (V for Versatile) global platform that also underpins the March hatchback. The rest of the dynamic package is par for the segment, including an electric power steering, front MacPherson struts, a rear torsion beam, ventilated disc brakes up front, drum brakes at the back, and 185/65 R15 tyres.

2012 Nissan Almera To Launch In Malaysia This November In Three Variants

Image
The 2012 Nissan Almera has opened for booking from September 6, without any indication of the official prices so we are stuck with the previous indicated price range of between RM70K to RM85K. At least now we know that there will be three variants coming around the rumoured launch date in November: the base Almera E manual, the mid-range Almera V and the range-topping Almera VL. Based on Nissan's all-new V (V for Versatile) global platform that is also used by the March hatchback, the Almera's main selling point appears to be its class-leading rear legroom of 636 mm, derived from the same 2600-mm wheelbase as its predecessor Latio sedan's, and the generous boot capacity of 490 litres. So large is the B-segment Almera that it has been classified as a mid-size sedan by the U.S. agency EPA. We are not sure the claimed "upscale sedan presence" was in view, and the performance on paper appears lacklustre too, at just 102 HP at 6000 rpm and 139 ...

To go with the sports suspension, the Almera Impul gets 16-inch Impul HS-06 alloys (RM4,000), which are in silver and black with a matte finish. This is an inch up over the stock wheels, but customers can upsize to 17-inch Impul Aura SX-10 alloys (RM4,600). The package is rounded off by...

Nissan NV200 - New York's Taxi of Tomorrow

Image
The Nissan NV200 is set to replace the obsolete looking Ford Crown Victoria as New York City's taxi! I'm sure you'll see the Crown Victoria dominated New York's street if you been there, and NV200 will change the landscape soon. By the way, Nissan NV200 is also available in Malaysia now as the Nissan Vanette's replacement model. Don in yellow, the NV200 has the usual taxi outlook, but it looks a bit like cargo van without alloy wheels. However, the NV200 is said to be the most comfortable and safest taxi the City has ever had, as it comes with curtain airbags for front and rear occupants. Nissan has done a great job in designing the cabin of the NV200. You'll never know that the NV200 is a MPV if you didn't get to see its exterior. The cabin is quite car-like but with dashboard mounted gear lever to free up the space at the front. Ingress and egress made easy thanks to the sliding door, entry step and grab handles. The high carbin hei...

Datsun brand comeback is confirmed

Image
It’s confirmed. Datsun is back. That’s right. The brand that Nissan discontinued in order to unify all of its products under one roof will be back on the road in the very near future. The news isn’t a surprising one. Nissan was earlier reported to be ready to revive the brand. Reports suggest that Datsun will be an affordable car brand, with vehicles bearing a small displacement engine and fitted with high local content. Carlos Ghosn was quoted as saying that the Datsuns would be green cars, no doubt supporting the Indonesian government’s plans to introduce a Green Car plan in the near future. So, in the grand scheme of things, Datsun will conveniently take its place under its parent, Nissan, and placed well away from the top-shelf Infiniti marque. The target market for each brand cannot be more obvious. The rejuvenated sub-brand has a whole new market to tackle, of course. Ghosn, while talking to the media, said that Datsun ‘will provide sustainable motoring...

Nissan Invitation

Image
Nissan Invitation The Nissan Invitation has sporty lines influenced by the Juke crossover, and looks far more aggressive than the current Note. These images show deep bumpers and sharp lights, plus a panoramic glass roof. Inside there are sharp creases in the door trims and on the steering wheel. The smooth, uncluttered centre console has a touchscreen display and circular climate control dials, while the gearlever is mounted on its own sculpted ‘island’. The heavily bolstered sports seats are unlikely to make it to production. Instead the supermini-MPV is set to get flexible flat-folding seats similar to the current Note. Expect the new Note to come with an engine range that’s similar to its predecessor’s – meaning 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre petrol engines, plus a 1.5-litre diesel. There’s also speculation that it will make use of the 97bhp 1.2-litre supercharged three-cylinder DIG-S petrol engine from the Micra. This includes stop-start techn...

Nissan Leaf Is Japanese Car Of The Year 2011

Image
Nissan Leaf, an all-electric car (EV) has taken the title of Japanese Car of the Year (JCOTY) 2011! For the first time ever an EV won this prestigious award. The Nissan Leaf, which is also the winner of the European Car of the Year 2011 award, must have made Nissan proud and this also shows that EV is improving in a tremendous pace. The Nissan Leaf is a zero-emission vehicle which depend fully on its rechargeable lithium-ion batteries to power the car. Following the good response on Malaysia's first registered EV, the Mitsubishi MiEV , the Nissan Leaf would be another great addition if EVs were to come to Malaysia! Below is the list of JCOTY winner in the past 5 years: 2010 Honda CR-Z 2009 Toyota Prius 2008 Toyota iQ 2007 Honda Fit (Jazz) 2006 Lexus LS430 As you can see Honda CR-Z and Toyota Prius, both are hybrid cars, was the winner in the year of 2010 and 2009 respectively. Now, Nissan Leaf, which is an EV emerged as the winner of JCOTY 2011. This is ...

Nissan Teana 250 XV

Image
Nissan Teana 250 XV If you sat in or driven a Nissan Sylphy, you'll notice the silky smooth ride it has from a smooth performing engine and XTRONIC CVT gearbox. The ride I had in the Sylphy was relaxing and comfortable, thanks to the thickly padded seats (and home sofa-inspired rear bench!), good refinement and suspension that absorb most of the road undulations. Since Sylphy is a C-Segment sedan, it has a D-segment elder brother named Teana. I'm sure you guys remember Cefiro, right? Well, Teana is the successor of Cefiro and after a short hiatus, the latest generation is here to gain back a spot in the D-segment along with popular models like Toyota Camry and Honda Accord. If Sylphy is a silky smooth car, then you can expect the Teana to be silky smoother! The all-new Teana looks appealing in the eyes... of some middle income or in the 30s and 40s men. Don't get me wrong, the Teana doesn't look obsolote and atrocious, but still it won't appe...
