You’re looking at a one-off belonging to guitar master Eric Clapton, a Ferrari enthusiast and owner. Designed by Centro Stile Ferrari in collaboration with Pininfarina and the engineers from Maranello, this Ferrari “SP12 EC” was created as homage to Clapton’s career and his experience as a Ferrari owner. Clapton is very attached to one particular Ferrari, so much so that he owned three of them over the years. The model in question is the 512 BB of the late 70s. So his desire was to drive a car inspired by the Berlinetta Boxer, based on the modern 458 Italia of today. “Meticulous attention in terms of style and technology was paid to the proportions and architecture of the SP12 EC – which is part of Ferrari’s One-Off Programme – making this exceptional car even more significant. The 458 Spider today joined its coupe sister, the 458 Italia, in the local Ferrari lineup, and rolls in at a starting baseline price of RM1.9 million, going up to RM2.2 million or so depending on the level of customisation you load on it. The Spider, which debuted in Frankfurt last year, is powered by a normally-aspirated, direct-injection 4.5 litre V8 with 570 cheval vapeur (CV), which translates to 562 hp at 9,000 rpm and 540 Nm at 6,000 rpm. The mill is coupled to a dual-clutch F1 paddle-shift seven-speed transmission with E-Diff, which integrates F1-Trac traction control and high-performance ABS. Performance specs include a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of under 3.4 seconds and a maximum speed of 320 km/h. Meet the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta! Ferrari claimed that the, let's call it the F12 to be simple, is the fastest production Ferrari to date! For your info, the F12 is the replacement model for the 599, which hardly looks obsolete, right? Featuring some design cues from the Ferrari FF Shooting Brake, the F12 looks sharp but with some curves at the right places to make it look more interesting. Somehow I noticed the front air intake is shaped to a smile, but of course, this is a Ferrari and Ferraris are suppose to be mean, and the F12 ticked the box. The F12 uses the same 6.3-litre naturally aspirated V12 powerplant as the FF, but with a bump in power output. The horsepower figure increases from 651hp to 730hp, while the torque increases from 683Nm to 690Nm. These figures enable to F12 to sprint from 0-100km/h in 3.1 seconds! How staggering! The small rear window of the 458 Spider may not be its most advanced technological feature, but it’s certainly one that allows a new and vastly entertaining perspective of how thrilling a Ferrari can be. Why’s that? Because the 15cm high piece of glass slides down at the touch of a button, even when the roof is fixed in place and sheltering its occupants from wind, rain or sun.
