MINI One is back – more kit, price 3k up, RM146,888 The entry-level MINI One, brought in yearly by BMW Malaysia in small batches, is back in town. Buyers of this fresh batch stand to get more kit than before, but there’s also an accompanying price increase. As before, the One is available in either Chili Red or Pepper White. Those rims are the same 15-inch 5-Star Twin Spoke alloys, but there are some new kit such as multifunction buttons, sport steering wheel, rain sensor and automatic lights, radio MINI Boost and Bluetooth hands free kit with USB interface. These make the One feel less bare bones and more like a Cooper from the inside. The MINI One is powered by a detuned version of the 1.6 litre four-cylinder engine from the Cooper. Here, it makes 92 hp and 150 Nm of torque, and when paired to a six-speed automatic gearbox, delivers good average fuel consumption of 6.7 litres per 100 km. Fancy one? The price for One is RM146,888 OTR without insurance, a RM3,000 increas...

A new record – MINI Cooper SD fits 28 people

Image
Last year, we saw 14 people squeeze into a MINI Countryman in Penang and snapped a video of it. But that’s nothing compared to this latest feat, which saw a total of 28 people cram themselves into a 2012 MINI Cooper SD. 28 flexible ladies from a gym in East Sussex crammed their way into the MINI Hatch at Potters Fields Park, London as part of the eighth annual Guinness World Records day. The team broke their own previous record of 27 people, which they set in Eastbourne last year. People were stuffed in every inch including the dashboard, the footwells, and four people even fit themselves into the boot. After that, they repeated their feat with a classic Mini, managing to stuff a staggering 23 ladies into it, beating the previous record by two people.

New MINI 'Mini'

Image
It’s the car that fans of the original Mini have been waiting for – and it could be the biggest-selling new MINI yet. With stringent emissions regulations and spiralling petrol prices, the demand for compact cars is going through the roof.   And the new baby MINI is set to head a new breed of penny-pinching small cars that prove you don’t have to sacrifice style and driving fun for low running costs. Based on the Rocketman concept , the ‘mini’ MINI will expand the burgeoning brand even further. It will create a new entry point and mark the beginning of a new era, too, with a range of three-cylinder engines on offer, lightweight materials throughout and an all-electric version in the pipeline. The images show how the pint-sized production car is likely to look – and all those who have been waiting patiently for a true successor to the Sixties model will be pleased to see this car’s tiny footprint on the road. The ‘mini’ MINI is only 40cm longer and 50cm wider than the original, a...

MINI Cooper Rocketman

Image
At 3,419mm long and 1,907mm wide, the baby MINI is about 40cm longer and 50cm wider than the original. The Rocketman borrows
technology from owner BMW’s forthcoming Megacity electric
car, which uses
a carbon fibre spaceframe to reduce weight – and rather than hide it, MINI has left it exposed around the grille and front apron. At the rear, the hexagonal
lines mirror the nose, and MINI’s famous ‘Coke-can’ exhaust pipe
gets a central position in the bumper. The quirky, handle-
style tail-lights project on to
the bodywork, rather than face straight out, and incorporate
the brake and indicator lamps. The trademark Union Jack
roof makes a return as a full-length glass panel, using the car’s structural beams to create the diagonal and horizontal lines. Getting in to the Rocketman isn’t as difficult as you might
think thanks to the double-hinged doors which allow for a wide opening. Despite the cabin’s small dimensions, MINI claims it is spacious enough for four adults, a...
