Kia Optima K5 is here at RM143,888 !

The Kia Optima K5 is launched in Malaysia, selling at RM143,888 on the road. It gives other D-segment competitors a run for their money with its comprehensive list of equipment and bold styling.

Only one engine variant is available at this moment though, which is the 2.0litre Theta II MPI engine. Fret not! The power that this powerplant able to churn out 165bhp and 198Nm of torque at 4600rpm is more than its 2.0litre competitors like Teana, Accord and Camry!

No doubt that this Optima K5 is a head turner. Daytime LED running lights, HID auto levelling headlights, flush 18-inch alloys, rear lip spoiler and blacked three-piece panoramic roof (all as standard) make the Optima K5 looks grand at day, stylish at night.

inside, paddle shift, leather seats, dual-zone air-conditioner and cruise control are standard equipments for the Optima K5. Other items include reverse camera integrated to the rear-view mirror, push-start button, 8-way electronic controlled driver seat with memory to mention a few.

In terms of safety, the Kia Optima offers 6 airbags, ABS, EBD, BA, TCS and hill-start assist. No close competitors of Optima's offer side and curtain airbags and also hill-start assist as standard in the similar price range and engine displacement. • The top-of-the-line 2012 Volkswagen Passat SEL Premium starts at $33,720, including shipping.

HERNDON, Virginia — Volkswagen on Thursday announced that it is lowering the price of the redesigned 2012 Passat by $7,180 versus the 2010 Passat, thus undercutting the base 2011 Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. The 2012 Passat will go on sale in the fall.
The base 2012 Volkswagen Passat 2.5L starts at $20,765, including a $770 destination charge, compared to $27,945 for the 2010 Passat. The top-of-the-line 2012 Volkswagen Passat SEL Premium starts at $33,720, including shipping. There was no 2011 Passat.
The pricing strategy slots the new Passat — which is longer, wider and roomier than its predecessor — below the base Camry and Accord. The 2011 Toyota Camry starts at $20,995, including a $760 destination charge. The 2011 Honda Accord starts at $21,930, including a $750 destination charge.
But the Passat's chief domestic rival, the 2011 Ford Fusion, is still cheaper. The 2011 Ford Fusion starts at $19,645, including a $795 destination charge.
VW offers a choice of three engines in the Passat, including a four-cylinder turbodiesel that is expected to deliver 43 mpg on the highway, the company said in a statement. The Passat with the 2.0-liter TDI starts at $26,765, including shipping.
VW is providing free scheduled maintenance for three years or 36,000 miles.
Inside Line says: VW re-enters the midsize family sedan segment with an aggressive pricing strategy — but will it be enough to get buyers out of their old favorites?

 

Kia Ray EV's Korea First Production EV !

After the debut of Kia Ray's gasoline version, Kia produced the Ray EV, which is a zero emission vehicle with a range up to 139km on a single charge. Although the Ray EV weighs 187kg more than its gasoline counterpart, it still able to produce adequate performance with a strong electric motor. 50kW and 167Nm of torque is available this time, about 77% increase in torque compared to gasoline version. This will ensure a strong takeoff from idle.



Recharging time for the Ray EV is six hours if a 220V household supply is used. However, it only need 25 minutes in fast-charge mode for the 16.4 kWh lithium ion polymer battery pack.


Like the Mitsubishi MiEV, Ray EV also comes with options while driving in 'D' (Drive) mode. 'E’ (‘eco’) mode optimizes the motor’s torque to achieve low battery consumption. ‘B’ (brake) mode is to maximize braking power while driving down hill and optimizes regenerative braking.



Kia fitted the Ray EV with Virtual Engine Sound System (VESS) which emits a recorded sound of gasoline engine. This is to prevent accidents with pedestrian because unlike gasoline engine, EV emits (almost) no noise. It will only be emitted when the speed is under 20km/h and reversing the Ray EV.

Lexus LF-LC

The amazing machine is officially described as "a design exercise to explore the future of Lexus design" but it could preview an upcoming large coupe to take on the Mercedes SL and BMW 6 Series. 

Produced by Lexus' design studio Calty, which is based in Newport Beach, California, the 2+2 LF-LC features a dramatic long bonnet with cues from the LF-A supercar mixed with an even more aggressive front end from the LF-Gh concept, which previewed the new GS. 

Lexus does have a gap in its model line-up for a sports coupe. The last time the luxury brand offered an upmarket coupe to rival the Mercedes SL was the SC430, which featured a folding metal roof and left the line-up back in 2008. Like the LF-LC, it was designed in California.

Details are scarce at the moment – the main image you see here was leaked from an American magazine – but you can expect a hybrid engine to power the new coupe and although Lexus has more important new models to launch – the BMW 3 Series-sized IS is due for replacement soon – there's a good chance Lexus will put the LF-LC into production.
