Mazda Takeri

Image
Mazda Takeri Mazda unveiled its latest midsize sedan concept car called Takeri. There's a huge possibility that the Takeri is a hint of what the replacement of Mazda 6 will look like. Following Mazda's Kodo design language, it has clues of the company's Shinari concept and CX5. Although the Takeri is a concept car, the design of it does not say so. It looks ready for production, even with the sharp lines and huge alloy rims. The window profile, again, has hints of the Mazda 6. However, the Takeri has more curves and lines to make it a stunning looking car. Then, Takeri (or the upcoming Mazda 6) will be a direct competition to the beautiful Hyundai Sonata in terms of design. Coincidentally, the rear of Takeri has hints of Hyundai Sonata, which is a good thing. The Takeri will have a 2.2litre SkyActiv-D turbodiesel engine and an i-stop idling stop function with regerative braking to assist fuel consumption.

Hyundai i10 1.25 Kappa – Test Drive Review

Image
Hyundai i10 1.25 Kappa – Test Drive Review The Hyundai i10 is one of those talented but overlooked cars in the market. When I first tested the car back in 2008, i was truly surprised at how sophisticated it drove compared to Perodua’s Viva and Myvi. Those who have driven an Atoz before will surely not believe that this is a car in the same segment by the same manufacturer – they are aeons apart! So it was good to revisit the i10, now with a bigger engine to remedy one of the very few issues this writer had with the car – the leisurely pick up. In comes the 1.25-litre Kappa engine, which has 11 bhp and 20 Nm more than the Epsilon 1.1-litre, which will continue to be sold by Hyundai-Sime Darby. Will this new engine make the i10 the undisputed best small car out there and earn it a bit more attention? We find out. Continue reading the report after the jump. You might have noticed the 1.25 designation for the Kappa engine, and while it’s rare for carmakers to state engine ca...

Entry level iPhone 3GS 8GB for RM1,199

Image
When Apple announced 8GB versions for earlier iPhone models, it was meant to be entry level models to make it affordable for the masses. That doesn’t seem to be the case here until recently. Apart from the iPhone 4 8GB which can be bought for RM1,799 outright, reader David had pointed out that Apple Store is also offering the iPhone 3GS 8GB for RM1,199 outright. This makes it cheaper and can be a choice for mid level smart phone buyers. The iPhone 3GS is still decent smart phone with access to a huge library of apps on the App store. In terms of software, it is still on par with the latest iPhone as it supports iOS 5 albeit with reduced new features. Other smart phones within that price range are Sony Ericsson Xperia ray, LG Optimus Black, Samsung Galaxy S Plus and Samsung Galaxy W. As comparison, Maxis iPhone page is still showing the 3GS 8GB priced at RM1,790. There’s an i3GS promo plan which offers the phone for RM199 with 24 months contract. For more information, head ove...

Ferrari 458 Spider

Image
The small rear window of the 458 Spider may not be its most advanced technological feature, but it’s certainly one that allows a new and vastly entertaining perspective of how thrilling a Ferrari can be. Why’s that? Because the 15cm high piece of glass slides down at the touch of a button, even when the roof is fixed in place and sheltering its occupants from wind, rain or sun. What that open portal allows to enter the cabin is noise: the suck and roar of the repositioned engine intakes from behind the cabin and, more importantly, the barking, snarling, animalistic symphony of the 458’s 4.5-litre V8. Advertisement: Story continues below Driving across the Cisa Pass between Parma and Italy’s west coast along a sinuous stretch of mountain road is to play tunes with the throttle, listening to the deep bellow at low revs, the pop and crackle as the paddle-shift transmission changes gears, and the echo of an engine pushing 9000rpm bouncing off road cuttings and the inside...

Mazda 6 Takeri

Image
Mazda has pulled the wraps from the car that’s set to replace the popular 6 in only 18 months’ time. The four-door saloon concept will make its public debut at the Tokyo Motor Show in December, and is called the Takeri. We understands that hatchback and estate versions are also under development, but details remain scarce. However, Mazda has confirmed that the car follows its Kodo design philosophy, and features the new SkyActive-D 2.2-litre diesel engine that will debut in the CX-5 SUV in March. The 173bhp 2.2-litre engine is all new, and will return around 60mpg. Revving smoothly to 5,500rpm, it can generate up to 400Nm of torque and promises strong in-gear acceleration. As with the Minagi concept that previewed the CX-5, the Takeri is believed to be a close representation of the upcoming 6, and has been penned by chief designer Akira Tamatani. By the time the newcomer reaches production, drivers can expect it to be lighter and tougher than the car it repl...

New Civic Type R with TURBO

Image
The next Honda Civic Type R will not only be the fastest version yet – it’s tipped to be Honda’s first-ever turbo road car. And our sources in Japan say tuning expert Mugen is already well underway with development. The Type R has already achieved cult status in the UK – Europe’s biggest hot hatch market – thanks to its combination of a high-revving naturally aspirated engine and aggressive styling. But in order to meet emissions regulations, this latest model will tweak the formula slightly. Instead of the previous 2.0-litre naturally aspirated engine, it will use a 2.0-litre turbo designed to comply with Euro V emissions regulations. A similar engine will feature in Honda’s 2012 British Touring Car Championship challenger. Adding a turbo will give more torque lower in the rev range, so a higher gear can be used more often to boost efficiency. Stop-start is also likely to be fitted. Honda will increase the Type R’s output – but not by much. A figure ...
