Nokia Announces Lumia 925 for Malaysia. Available in August

Image
It’s official, the Lumia 925 will be available in Malaysia starting August and will sell for RM1,799. First announced in May, the Lumia 925 features an aluminum frame wrapped around a polycarbonate body. In terms of hardware, the 925 is virtually identical to Lumia 920 with the same 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm MSM8960 processor with 1GB RAM and 2,000mAh battery. Where the 925 differs from the 920 is the display and camera. While the size of the display remains the same — 4.5-inch 1280×768 pushing out 331ppi — the Lumia 925 uses AMOLED where the 920 uses an LCD IPS panel. Also, the Gorilla Glass display with Nokia’s ClearBlack technology can be used even if you have gloves on. The 8.7MP camera with Optical Image Stabiliser is given a boost with a 6-element Zeiss optics lens instead of five on the Lumia 920. In addition, the Lumia 925 is lighter at 139 grams (Lumia 920: 185 grams) and smaller overall (in terms of height, width and thickness). Nokia’s built-in camera appl...

Nokia Announces the Lumia 625. Comes with a Relatively Large Screen and Not Much Else

Image
Looks like the leaked images and specs were spot on. The Lumia 625 is official and its calling card is the largest display ever put on a Nokia Windows Phone. But is it enough to make you want one? We don’t think so. With a 4.7-inch LCD display, the Lumia 625 is considered average in a market dominated by Android phones with large displays sporting 720p or full 1080p resolution. And the display isn’t particularly sharp either. Pushing out a lowly 201ppi with a 800×480 resolution, the Lumia 625 has one of the lowest pixel densities we’ve seen on a smartphone in recent months. On the up side, the display sports Gorilla Glass 2 and can be used even if you’re using gloves over your digits. Powering the Lumia 625 is a dual-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon S4 processor with 512MB RAM and 8GB internal storage. Usable memory can be increased with a microSD card slot that takes cards up to 64GB and there’s also 7GB of cloud storage courtesy of Microsoft via SkyDrive. If you ask us, 7GB...

iOS 7 revealed with cleaner UI & usability enhancements

Image
Apple is giving its iPhone and iPads a new breath of life with its latest iOS 7 operating system. After launching several mobile devices since 2007, the iOS platform has been pretty much the same with minute changes here and there. With the competition stepping up from the Android, BlackBerry and even Windows Phone camp, a change is needed by Apple to keep its mobile devices on par with today’s growing need. Without a doubt, the iOS platform is one of the easiest to use mobile OS out there. Simplicity has always been a key which allows users from either young or old to pick up an iPhone or iPad and start using it with rather minimal learning curve. For power users particularly those who have been comfortable with other flexible mobile platforms, would be harder to please on iOS. Biggest challenge is how could Apple offer more control and features but yet maintain the simplicity that it is has been famous for?

Purported entry level full touch screen BlackBerry Z5 leaked

Image
After the announcement of its high end BlackBerry Z10 and BlackBerry Q10 models, we’ve seen BlackBerry rolling out cheaper alternatives such as the BlackBerry Q5. The above image is apparently the purported entry level version of a BlackBerry 10 device with a full touch screen experience, in other words, a cheaper Z10. Currently it is dubbed as the BlackBerry Z5 and currently there’s no details of its internal specs but it shouldn’t be far off from what the Q5 is offering. The BlackBerry 10 OS is definitely a refreshing and from our hands-on experience, the gestures are pretty easy to get used to and feels natural in single hand use. At the moment, the BlackBerry Z10 and Q10 are priced the same range, if not higher than its Android and iPhone rivals. The challenge would be to bring the experience to the masses, and having an affordable offering is crucial for BlackBerry.

ASUS MeMO Pad ME172V Review

Image
ASUS MeMO Pad ME172V  The budget-friendly 7-inch Android tablet has been around in Malaysia since the end of January for a price tag of RM 499. At a price under RM 500, the tablet is really a steal and is easily one of the best quality branded-tablet that the market has to offer right now. Recently, we got our hands on a loan unit of MeMO Pad. Yes, thanks to ASUS Malaysia for loaning us the tablet for reviewing purpose. In this article, we are going to look in-depth (sort of) at this tablet – on its design, build quality, hardware, notable features, battery life as well as the the device performance while running apps and games. However, don’t give high expectation to MeMO Pad as the tablet is just an entry-level and the cheapest Android tablet produced by the Taiwanese company. Design and Hardware Despite being an entry-level Android tablet, the MeMO Pad does not look like a “cheap” tablet at all, although it’s mainly made of plastic. ASUS has a goo...
