How to drive traffic to your blog? Experiments 2010.

In 2009, I have written below as ways to drive traffics to your blog/websites:
1.      Do SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and rank high in search engine especially in Google for your targeted keywords
2.      Write comments and share ideas in forums or other people’s blogs.
3.      Exchange links with other bloggers with similar contents to your websites or blogs. Most people have commented that by exchanging links and getting back links from page with high PR (Page Rank) will give you a higher ranking in search engine results according to their algorithm.
4.      Build a content rich blog and high keyword density page to give you a higher ranking in search engine result.
5.      Gives away free e-books or getting people to sign up your email listing. By doing this most bloggers comment that it will help sent back traffics to the blog as the e-book is a type of viral marketing where people will help you distributing them out if your contents are great.
6.      Give away physical things or books to attract readers keep coming back to your blog.
7.      Do some offline advertising to promote your blog.
8.      Buy traffics by using Google Adwords or similar ads campaign.(Which I disagree).
9.      Using the Facebook,Friendster,Twitter and etc to drive traffics into your blog.
10.  Get people to subscribe your RSS feed or submit your blog to some blogs index page.
11.  Submitting your content to those free articles website in order to drive the traffic to your websites.

Today is 22 Feb 2011, 2010 has been a good year for me in make money online. Below are my experiences for driving traffics to blogs I have, and some of the trends I have noticed that might be useful in this year and coming years.

I have noticed that in order to get revisiting and stable visitors, exchanging links with blogs/website which have similar categories with yours is very useful and crucial.
Especially with blogger who has a blogroll function, the more you update your websites, the more often you will appear in the first or second in their blogroll as most bloggers arrange their blogroll according to the latest updated blog content. Thus more you write, more chances you appear first among other bloggers.

Another thing I have noticed is that social media especially facebook and twitter are getting more influential in the website businesses. Facebook fanpage is something you should not omit if you are serious in your blogging. Last year, Facebook’s ads have even more income that Google’s adword, this bring out message to me that facebook can someday be more influential than any other search engines, thus be serious on their advertisement program. Study how it works and how it might help you. It’s power of influential can be even more than your website/blog as the fanpage is not something as threatening as a website to most readers, and they do not see your page as selling something but rather as a sharing website.

My experience with forum has not been fruitful. To generate visitors from forum required your never ending efforts and can sometimes be tiring. You need to keep on posting new things and also reply and comment on things others shared in order to get people going to your blog. And sometimes posting your own links in forum is prohibited by some forums management. But my best experience is also from forums. One of my posts was post up by some foreign visitors into their blogs which end up getting 300-400 increase in daily visitors for some weeks. The effects of forum can be huge spike in visitors, but the effect according to my experience is only short-life. Most of the time the increase in visitors are only 1-2weeks period. Not a very stable way to generate visitors.

I have noticed also in 2010, most bloggers with good income in Malaysia has been writing only 1 type of categories—Technology. Most of them are generating USD400-500 per month in adsense alone with other ads program which gives them income around RM2000-4000. Their visitors range from at least 1000 to 2000/day and some great bloggers have 10,000, but that’s rare. Another type which has high visitors is those who share news and gossips, mostly the Malay blogs. Looking at the way they write, they write good contents and with a great post titles which help them bait incoming links.
